❓ What's the difference between genderfluid and non-binary ❓
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here's my answer:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Genderfluid and nonbinary are both gender identities outside of the typical two options of man and woman, but they definitely have their distinctions and nuances.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For example, while genderfluid people have a gender that shifts and changes, nonbinary people might have a stagnant gender.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(Though people who identify with the label non-binary might have a shifting gender, without connecting to the word genderfluid, and that's completely valid as well!)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can also think of non-binary as being an umbrella term for any gender that is outside if the man/woman binary (in addition to being a concrete identity in and of itself).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As such, the term non-binary holds other identities within it, including genderfluid!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So as you can see, the two labels definitely overlap, and they might be interchangeable for some people --
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(For example, I personally refer to my own gender using both the genderfluid and non-binary labels) --
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But they are also two unique, distinctly wonderful identities 🥰🌈
